Wayne Christian Tank, 85, of rural Wilton, died on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at the Carrington Place in Muscatine, from complications related to Parkinson’s disease. Visitation was held on Friday, December 30, from 4-7:00 p.m., at the Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, Iowa. Additional visitation was one hour prior to the services at the United Methodist Church in Wilton. Services were held on Saturday, December 31, at the United Methodist Church, Wilton. Interment was in the Durant Cemetery, Durant. Memorials can be made in Wayne's memory to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, the Iowa 4-H Foundation or the Wilton United Methodist Church.

Wayne was born on March 12, 1926 in Cedar County, to George and Hannah (Griebel) Tank. He graduated from the Durant High School in 1943. Following graduation he worked on area farms and later for the Scott County Extension Service. In 1948, Wayne enrolled at Iowa State University. He was drafted in 1950 and served in Korea for the next two years. On November 1, 1952, he married Wilma Jean Tillman of Clarion, Iowa. They operated a diversified crop and livestock farm in the Durant and Wilton areas until retiring in 1991.

Wayne was active in a number of civic organizations. He was a 50-plus year member of both the J. L. Shryer American Legion Post #430 and the Wilton Masonic Lodge #167 AF and AM. He was also a long time member of the Wilton United Methodist Church, the Durant Lions, the Davenport Consistory and the Kaaba Shrine. He served as a Leader for the Farmington Flashers 4-H Club and coached youth baseball for many years.

Mr. Tank is survived by his wife of 59 years, Til and their three sons; Jeffrey (Diane) of Muscatine, Jack (Susan) of Iowa City and Alan (Margo) of Bethesda, Maryland; as well as seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Harlan. The Bentley Funeral Home of Durant, was in charge of the arrangements.
