Wendy Holthaus Unger

Wendy Unger, 46, died on Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee, with Fr. Bob Schoeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Waukee Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee, where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to family for the children's education.

Wendy was born on June 20, 1965 in Clarion, Iowa, the daughter of Clark and Loretta (Paul) Holthaus. She graduated from the Clarion High School and received her B.A. in Communications from the University of Iowa. On August 24, 1991, she married Randy Unger in Clarion, Iowa. Wendy worked in the IT department at Wells Fargo for the past 16 years. She was an active member of her church, loved watching movies, jewelry making and spending time with family and friends. Wendy had an infectious laugh, a kind heart and a love of life.

Wendy is survived by her husband of 20 years, Randy; two children, Chelsey Unger of Ames and Hailey Unger of Waukee; step-daughters, Stacy (Sam) Freeburg of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Stefanie Unger of Longmont, Colorado and Shawna Unger of Denver, Colorado; sisters, Annette Saunders of Denver, Colorado, Gail (John) Bormann of Waukee and Renee (Peter) Hendricks of Clive; several nieces, nephews and eight step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Clark Holthaus of Oskaloosa. Funeral arrangements by the Iles Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel.
