LUVERNE, IA - Funeral services for Verl R. Patterson, 86, of LuVerne, were conducted by the Rev. Dennis Secrease at 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2005, in the First Congregational Church, UCC, Algona. Masonic Rites and Eastern Star Rites were conducted the preceding evening. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery, Algona. The Wilson Funeral home of Algona was in charge of arrangements.
Verl R. Patterson, son of Jewel M. and Lucille (Walker) Patterson, was born April 16, 1918, near Irvington, in Kossuth County, Iowa. After graduating from Algona High School, he attended Iowa State University, Ames, and Dunnwoody Architectural College, Minneapolis. Due to his father's poor health, he returned home to the family farm, a Century Farm of Iowa, and raised registered Holstein cattle. On June 3, 1943, Verl married V. Louise Huntley in Renwick, Iowa. They made their home and raised their family on the family farm.
Verl Patterson died Monday, March 7, 2005, in the Kossuth Regional health Center, Algona. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Wayne and Elaine Patterson, of Whittemore and Don and Sandy Patterson, of Trenton, Missouri, three daughters, Alice, and her husband, Lanny Weil of Chandler, Arizona, Janice Waldera, of Algona, and Jean, and her husband, Gerald Brostrom, of Burnsville, Minnesota, two sisters, Wana and Zelba, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 2003, an infant son, Edward Morris, a great-grandson, Jerimiah, and three sisters, Zena and twins Ielda and Idela.
