Funeral service for Louise Patterson, 84, LuVerne, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, in the First Congregational UCC with the Rev. Dennis Secrease officiating. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery, the Wilson Funeral Home of Algona in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Russ Canaday, Roger Rochleau, Denny Olson, Collin Menning, Bruce Thomas and Denny Schwab.

V. Louise Huntley, daughter of Edward Burton and MayBelle Overbaugh Huntley, was born in rural Wright County, near Renwick, on February 19, 1919. After graduating from Renwick High School, Louise attended the St. Joseph Mercy Nursing School at Mason City. She received additional specialized training in surgical nursing at Sioux City and later at Sacramento, CA. Louise was married to Verl R. Patterson on June 3, 1943, at Renwick. They lived on the Patterson home farm, a Centennial Family Farm, south of Algona on Highway 169. She continued to do nursing in obstetrics, retaining her license until she was 65 years of age. Louise was a member of the First Congregational UCC, Daughters of the American Revolution, White Shrine, Order of the Eastern Star and Past Matrons. She was very active in each of her organizations and held numerous offices. She loved roses and working in her rose gardens. Louise tested roses for Jackson-Perkins. She enjoyed quilting and doing other handwork and was also a bird lover.

Louise died Tuesday, July 1 (2003), in her home south of Algona. Surviving are her husband, Verl and five children; Wayne and Elaine Patterson, Whittemore; Don and Sandy Patterson, Trenton, MO; Alice, Mrs. Lanny Weil, Chandler, AZ; Janice Waldera, Algona; Jean, Mrs. Gerald Brostrom, Burnsville, MN. She has 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister and two brothers, Helen "Becky" Kierston of Fulton, CA; Richard and Lavonne Huntley, Kanawha, Oliver and Marci Huntley, Mesa, AZ. An infant son, Edward Morris, her parents and three brothers, Burton, Marion and John, preceded her in death.
