Humboldt, IA -- Peter E. Hefty, 93, of Humboldt, died May 30, 2003, at the Good Samaritan Home in Algona. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt, with the Rev. Ed Kail officiating. Burial was in North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge.

Peter Elmer Hefty was born June 8, 1909 on the farm northwest of Renwick, the son of Heinrich and Regula (Elmer) Hefty. He received his education and was graduated from Vernon Consolidated School in 1926 at the age of 16. Pete was united was united in marriage to Ruth M. Erickson on April 8, 1939. Pete farmed near Renwick all of his life and also bought and sold dairy cattle. He was an excellent judge of Holstein dairy cattle and shipped many head of cattle to countries around the world, including Korea, turkey, Iran, Mexico and many others. Pete retired from farming in 1978, and he and Ruth moved to Humboldt.

Peter Hefty is survived by his wife, Ruth of Algona; children and their spouses, Monte and Bonnie Hefty of Renwick, Ronald and Eloise Hefty of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Joyce and Marlin Fjelland of Clark, S.D.; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry, Dietrich and John J.; and his very loving sister, Rachel McGowan.
