August 30, 1910 -- April 6, 2003

Funeral service for Gertrude A. Hefti, 92, was held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the United Methodist Church at LuVerne with the Rev. Joseph Needham officiating. Burial was in the Vernon Township Cemetery of rural Hardy with the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral home of LuVerne in charge. Casket bearers were Harold Schipull, Jim Gray, J. C. "Bud" Hefty, Bill Wickett, Bill Miller and Jack Guy.

Gertrude Angeline Stoddard, daughter of Chester and Matilda Hinz Stoddard, was born August 30, 1910, at LuVerne, IA. She attended country schools in the area and graduated from LuVerne High School in 1928.

Gertrude was married to Albert Hefti at Des Moines, IA on September 18, 1929. They farmed in the LuVerne and Renwick areas. Following the death of her husband in March of 1987, Gertrude continued to live on their farm east of LuVerne until her health failed. Gertrude died Sunday, April 6 (2003), in the Kanawha Community Home at Kanawha where she had been a resident since February of 2003. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her family. Gertrude was a member of the United Methodist Church at LuVerne.

Surviving are her daughters, Jean Elbert of Spencer and Betty Helm, Greene, IA. She has four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Alice Norris of Cedar Rapids. Her husband, an infant son, a brother, Howard; a sister, Della and sons-in-law, Harlan Helm and Ed Elbert preceded her in death.
