September 24, 1911 --- August 28, 2002

SHEFFIELD, IA - Paul H. Knopf, 90, died Wednesday, August 28 (2002), in the Bartel's Retirement Community at Waverly where he had lived the last two years. Funeral service for him was held t 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church at Sheffield with Pastors David Schwechel and Pastor Keith Tomlinson, chaplain at Bartel's, officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery with the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home of Sheffield in charge of arrangements.

Paul Henry Knopf, son of William and Louise Guinther Knopf, was born September 24, 1911, at Renwick. He attended Vernon School at LuVerne and completed the 8th grade in 1925. Paul worked at Patterson Electric Shop at LuVerne on cars and trucks for several years. In 1939 he began to operate the Skelly Oil Company at LuVerne. Paul entered the United States Army and served in the Air Corps during WWII in the Pacific, African and European Theatres. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

Paul was married to Mary Glorine Stevens on July 12, 1945, in the Evangelical parsonage at Afton, IA. They lived at Sheffield where Paul had the Skelly Oil Company for many years. He then worked as a delivery driver for Na-Churs Liquid Fertilizer at Sheffield four years, retiring in 1977. Paul was a member of the former Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church at Sheffield. He was known for his singing and frequently sang in area churches. He was proud of his military service and greatly enjoyed visits with family and friends. He also raised chinchillas and loved spending time with his pets.

Paul Knopf is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Glorine; a son, William; his parents and a sister, Mary Knopf Thiel. Ten brothers and sisters died in infancy.
