ALGONA, IA - Funeral service for Denny Prilipp, 41, of Algona was held Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Algona with the Rev. Steve Turner and the Rev. Patrick O'Neal officiating. Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery at Algona, the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of Algona in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Kyle Wehrspan, Gregg Wehrspan, Jim Irwin, Kirk Wehrspan, Dean Simpson, and Jake Simpson. Honorary bearers were Lyle Bensen, Merlin "Red" Madsen, Leroy Hoffman, Don Madsen and Dr. Jerry Shey.
Dennis Paul Prilipp was born Feb. 16, 1961, in Fort Dodge to Donald and Sandra (McKenna) Prilipp. He moved from Renwick to Algona with his parents in 1974 and graduated from Algona High School in 1979. He earned an Associate of Arts Degree from Iowa Lakes Community College, then graduated from Worldwide College of Auctioneering at Mason City in 1981. On May 8, 1982, he was united in marriage to Jane Wehrspan at Algona and to this union were born sons Eric and Adam, and a daughter, Emily. Denny worked as an auctioneer at Algona Livestock Auction in Algona; North Star Auto Auction in Shakopee, Minn.; Madison County Auction in Winterset; Colfax Sales Company in Colfax; and Humeston Livestock in Humeston. He also taught at the Worldwide College of Auctioneering in Mason City. Denny won the 1992 World Champion Livestock Auctioneer title in Billings, Mont. Denny was truly dedicated to his work, and he enjoyed being with his family, golfing, camping and time at Lake Okoboji. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Algona.
Denny Prilipp died of cancer at his home Wednesday morning, Oct. 16, (2002). Survivors include his wife, Jane; three children, Eric, Adam and Emily, all at home; his parents, Don and Sandy Prilipp of Algona; his sister, Shari (and Dean) Simpson of Algona; paternal grandmother, Cora Prilipp of Humboldt; his wife's parents, Dean and Mary Wehrspan; brothers-in-law, Gregg (and Cathy) Wehrspan of Waukee; Kirk (and Angela) Wehrspan of West Des Moines, and Kyle (and Farrah) Wehrspan of Algona; several nieces, nephews, family and friends. Preceding him in death were his paternal grandfather, Elmer Prilipp; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Aurilla McKenna.
