Funeral Rites Saturday for Elmer Harris

Funeral services for Elmer Harris, 83, 2009 South Twelfth street, will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 in Bruces Memorial Chapel. The Rev. C. J. Jenkins, pastor of the New Testament Revival Center, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

Mr. Harris died Thursday morning at Lutheran hospital where he had been a medical patient for a month. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Surviving Mr. Harris are nine children. They are Russell of Council Bluffs, Guy of Otho, Evan of Duncombe and Hugh, Mrs. Wesley Hively, Glen, Mrs Virgil Young, Mrs. James Wilson and Paul, all of Fort Dodge. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one half brother, Bryan Harris of Wilmington, Ill., and a half-sister, Mrs Elsie Tredway of Shattuc, Ill. His wife, Maude May, preceded him in death Oct. 9, 1938. Also preceding him in death were three half-brothers and two half-sisters.

Born Feb. 8, 1878, at Wheatland, Ind., Mr. Harris was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Israel Harris. He was reared and educated at Wheatland. He was married June 25, 1899, at Indian Springs, Ind., to Maude May Porter. Mr. Harris came to the Duncombe area in 1918 where he farmed until retiring from that occupation in 1933. At that time the family moved to Fort Dodge. For several years after coming to the city Mr. Harris was employed in the Webster county highway maintenance shop. In 1947 he retired from active work because of ill-health. A member of the New Testament Revival Center Mr. Harris was a licensed minister with that denomination.
