22 September 1910 -- 9 October 1981

Francis G. Smith, 71, lifelong Webster City area resident, died Friday evening at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames following a sudden illness. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Snyder officiating. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery. Francis Glen Smith, the son of Claude and Marie Christenson Smith, was born Sept. 22, 1910 in Webster City and was reared and educated here. He was married to Mildred Ulrick Oct. 13, 1937, in Bethany, Mo. He was road superintendent of Hamilton County, being employed in that position for 31 years before retiring in January of 1979. The continued to live at 1521 First St. He is survived by his wife and one son, Richard Smith of Webster City; two grandchildren, Trent and Stefanie Smith; two step grandchildren, Jason and Jeff Stampka; four brothers and two sisters, Paul M. Smith and Claude "Bill" Smith, both of Webster City, Peg (Mrs. Art) Zatloukal of Eagle Grove, Dorothy (Mrs. Howard Hilpipre of Woolstock, Wayne L. Smith of Panquitch, Utah, and Ralph Smith of California. He was preceded in death by both parents and three sisters. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Webster City.
