Ralph L. Smith, 69, Stanhope, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery, with Cindi O'Brien, ministry assistant, officiating. There will be no visitation and arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral Home.

Ralph Lee Smith, son of Claude Smith, was born Feb. 26, 1930 at Webster City. From 1947 to 1950, he served with the U.S. Army. He moved to California where he was employed as a roofing contractor. On June 23, 1968, he married Mariam Bell at San Antonio, TX. The couple resided in California and he was employed at a dairy farm. The couple moved to Stanhope in 1986. Mrs. Smith died on April 30, 1987.

Survivors are his brothers Paul Smith of Webster City, Claude (Bill) of Eagle Grove, Wayne Smith of Panquitch, Utah, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Effie Smith, sisters, Pauline Rapp, Francis Smith, Fern Austin, Peg Zatloukal and Dorothy Hilpipre.
