July 16, 1911 --- March 25, 2003

Mildred Pepper, 91, of the Riverside Manor in Ames and formerly of Marshalltown, died Tuesday, March 25, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Services were this morning at Hope United Methodist Church in Marshalltown, with the Rev. Charles Curl officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mildred Hill Pepper was born July 16, 1911, in Dows, the daughter of Clarence and Mildred (Bates) Hill. She received her education in the area of her birth and graduated as class valedictorian of Dows High School. She married Vernard Pepper March 25, 1931, in Dows. They resided in Dows, Colo, State Center, Independence and New Providence before moving to Marshalltown. Mildred was employed at the Independence Mental Institute in nursing. In Marshalltown, she was a member of Hope United Methodist Church.

Left to mourn her loss are her six loving children, Norma (Harl) Ingham of Ames, Marladene Tice of Ames, Carol (William) Severidt of Marshalltown, Virgil (Carole) Pepper of Marshalltown, Jim (Linda) Pepper of Marshalltown and Julian (Karen) Pepper of Independence; 13 dear grandchildren; 29 precious great-grandchildren; four cherished siblings, Arthur Hill and Clair Hill, both of Dows, Evelyn Boyington of State Center and Lavonne Morris of Albert Lea, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In death, she has rejoined her loving husband Vernard; one grandson Todd Severidt; her parents; and her siblings Lawrence, Aubrey and Laurel Hill, Edith Fitz and Veva White. Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown is in charge of arrangements.
