Raymond A. Jorth
October 23, 1932 - December 7, 2005

Ray passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005 at his home in Ceylon. Raymond Anton Jorth was born on Oct. 23, 1932 in Clay County, the son of Oscar and Elizabeth (Beck) Jorth. He attended school in Milford and graduated from Milford High School in 1950. After his schooling he worked at home on the farm before being drafted in the United States Army and served in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1955. He returned to the Milford area and was a rural mail carrier. He was united in marriage to Myrna Karnis on Feb. 28, 1959 in Lake Park. Ray worked for the Co-op elevator in Woolstock and later became the general manager for the Co-op in Lacona. He also managed the elevator in Whittemore. In 1981 they moved to Ceylon where Ray was the general manager of the Ceylon Elevator for four years. In 1985, he started working for the Oakland Corporation in the Grain Accounting Computer Software Department. He retired in 1998. Myrna passed away on Aug. 6, 2002. Ray was a member of the Nassen-Detert American Legion Post 529 in Ceylon. He was an avid reader, loved to travel, watch sporting events and enjoyed his family.

He is survived by his two daughters, Liz Heffernan and her husband, Walt, of Chicago, Ill., Sue Jorth of Lake Tahoe, Nev.; two grandsons, John and Brian Heffernan of Chicago; one brother, Al Jorth and his wife, Sharyl, of Iowa; five sisters, Alice Blake and her husband, John, of Spain, Carol MacMurray and her husband, Don, of Pa., Sylvia Foreman and her husband, Ed, of Fla., Marjorie Wahlgren and her husband, Don, of Iowa, Polly Hahn of Neb.; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Myrna Jorth; two brothers, Curtis and Arnold Jorth; sister-in-law, Nora Jorth; and brother-in-law, Rodger Hahn.
