Anna M. Barbour, 86, of Gilbert and formerly of Fort Dodge, died today of cancer at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Private family services will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in North Lawn Cemetery.

Anna M. Barbour was born Sept. 16, 1915, in Chariton, the daughter of Cyrus and Harriet (Williams) Goodwin. She graduated from Chariton High School. She received her teaching certification from Simpson College. She married Edwin L. Barbour on July 31, 1941. The couple lived at Eagle Grove from 1952-1966 where Edwin was superintendent of schools and then in Fort Dodge from 1966-2001, where Edwin was president of Iowa Central Community College. She taught school in Arispe, Quimby and Reinbeck. She was a former member of First United Methodist Church, PEO, and Webster County ARC.

She is survived by two sons, William E. Barbour of Fort Dodge, and Stephen E. Barbour of Gilbert; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers; and one sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the the Gilbert Education Foundation of the Gilbert Community Schools in care of the family at 108 Christian Petersen Ave., Gilbert, IA, 50105. Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Fort Dodge is in charge of arrangements.
