ALGONA - Memorial service for George E. Wildin, 100, was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, in the chapel of the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home. The rev. Steven Turner of Trinity Lutheran Church officiated and burial was in Riverview Cemetery. Casket bearers were Rob Kuhlmann, Rich Faber, Kass Duis, Bob Kuhlmann, Bob Faber and Martin Duis.

George Edward Wildin, son of Lewis and Lillian Flowers Wildin, was born June 2, 1902, at Eagle Grove, IA. He grew up in the Eagle Grove area and in 1913, moved with his family to a farm southwest of Algona. George attended country school. After his schooling, George worked on the farm. He spent a short time in the US Navy, then returned home to work on the farm.

He was united in marriage to Norma Godden on February 1, 1926. Norma died July 21, 1943. George was later married to Ida Duis on January 15, 1945. Ida died November 21, 1994.

George was a wrestler. A very good wrestler. He would go from town-to-town to wrestle in events sponsored by the local VFW and American Legion back in the 1930s. He enjoyed being on the farm and working with his livestock and machinery. George was involved for a short time with stock car racing and sprint cars. He was a past president of the board of directors of the Hobarton Elevator.

George died Thursday, August 15 (2002), in the Good Samaritan Center at the age of 100. He is survived by his children: Margaret Fraser, Jim and Noreen Wildin, David and C. Marsha Wildin and Roger Wildin, all of Algona. He has 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. His wives, a grandson, Ryan; a great-great grandson, Luke; brothers, Gilbert, Lewis and Arthur Wildin and sisters, Mary Francis and Wilma Bacon, preceded him in death.
