Services for Velda M. Knoedler, 86, Shell Rock, Iowa will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church, Shell Rock. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion. Mrs. Knoedler died Tuesday, May 7, 1996, at the Shell Rock Health Care Center.

She was born Sept. 9, 1909, in Clarion, the daughter of LeRoy and Lurretta Sellers Hill. She graduated from high school in Clarion and then taught country school there. She and her husband farmed near Clarion until 1937 when they moved to a farm near Britt. They later farmed near Belmond and Sumner until they retired in 1967 and worked at several Travelodge Motels. They moved to Shell Rock in 1978. Mrs. Knoedler was a member of Shell Rock United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Zora Rebecca Lodge No. 189 in Shell Rock.

She married Elmer Laurel Knoedler on June 29, 1929, in Nashua. He died July 17, 1984. She was also preceded in death by three sons, Elmer "Laurel' Knoedler Jr., John L. Knoedler and an infant son. Survivors include two daughters, Beth Gates, Clarion, and Lurretta Daugherty, Lawrence, Kan.; a son, Keith Knoedler, Shell Rock; two sisters, Minnie Weston, Arlington, and Lavonne "Bonnie" Treloar, Arizona; a brother, Marion Hill, Orlando, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock, and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
