Chie Ainger, age 84, of Belmond, died on Monday, December 19, 2011, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, December 23, at the United Methodist Church. Pastor Cindy Morrison will officiate. The body will be cremated following the church service. Visitation will be held from 5–7:00 p.m., on Thursday, December 22, at the Dugger Funeral Home in Belmond and continue one hour prior to the services at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Chie’s name.

Chie Urushihara, the daughter of Senjiro and Take Tateno Urushihara, was born in June 9, 1927 in Wajima City, Japan. Chie was united in marriage to Harold O. Ainger of Belmond, Iowa, at the American Consulate in Tokyo, Japan. She arrived in the United States with her husband and daughter, Pat in 1952. The couple made their home in Belmond where Chie worked as a homemaker mother. She enjoyed everything there was about food. Shopping for it, cooking it, growing it, and serving it, Chie was a genuine gourmet. Also a talented seamstress, Chie created many a outfit including Pat’s wedding dress. Chie became a naturalized citizen in 1959, at the Federal Courthouse in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Chie was baptized and became a member of the United Methodist Church in Belmond.

Chie is survived by her husband of 64 years, Harold; three children, Patricia (James) Hamilton of Springfield, Missouri, Michael (Dawn) Ainger of Hiawatha and Peggy (David) Gaylord of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Matthew Hamilton, Sarah Hamilton, Steven Ainger and Jacob Gaylord; three step-grandchildren, Tyler, Austin and Ryan Mouw; a great-grandchild, Mason Huston; one sister and her husband along with a nephew and two nieces and their families in Japan. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Michiko. The Dugger Funeral Home of Belmond, was in charge of the arrangements.
