STORY CITY - Gerald R. Shelton, 78, of Story City, Iowa, died November 26, 2011 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 30th at Grace United Methodist Church in Story City. Burial will follow at 1:15 p.m. at Newark Township Cemetery in Vincent, Iowa. Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, November 29th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.
Gary was born September 26, 1933 to Rue and Genevieve (Simpson) Shelton in Webster City, Iowa. Gary was united in marriage to Joann Lempke on October 5, 1952 in Vincent. Gary was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Story County Shriners, American Legion, and the Elks. He served in the United States Army and was a Korean War veteran. Gary retired in 1995 after many years in the real estate and insurance business.
Gary is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Joann; his daughter Sheri (Jeff) Gatchel of Huxley, Iowa; his son David (Julie) Shelton of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; grandchildren Matthew (Brandee), Sara (Travis), Samantha, and Maddie; great-grandchildren Mason, Max, Marley, and Zoe; brothers Bob, Lynn, and Paul; his sister Mary Chalfant; and special sister-in-law Joyce Busse. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers Dale Shelton and Ron Shelton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or Israel Family Hospice House.
