FARNHAMVILLE, IA - Marjorie J. (Marge) Harter, age 89, died Monday, December 26, 2011 at the Gowrie Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 29 at the First United Church in Farnhamville with Pastor Jane Shepherd officiating. Burial will be in the Reading Township Cemetery near Farnhamville. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday (Today) at Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie.
Survivors include her husband, Derwood Harter of Gowrie; daughter, Linda Nolte and her husband Larry of Twin Lakes; daughter-in-law, Lisa Harter of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Nick and Rochelle Nolte of Farnhamville, Sara and Eli Houpis of Danville, CA, Jeff Harter, Steve Harter, Mike Harter all of Omaha; great-grandchildren, Ellie and Kinslie Nolte, Leo and Aris Houpis. Preceding her in death are her parents, George and Sarah Jane (Schafer) Miller; son, Gary Harter; brothers, Virgil Miller, Lincoln Miller, Bruce Miller, and Glen Miller; sisters, Fern Denger, Dorothy Olson, Otella Johnson, and Gail Reingardt.
Marjorie (Miller) Harter was born on February 17, 1922 in Dows, Iowa. She was educated in Dows, graduating from the Dows High School in 1939. She then attended Tobin Business School in Fort Dodge. Marjorie lived in California from 1941 to 1944, later returning to Fort Dodge. On March 13, 1948, Marjorie was united in marriage to Derwood Harter in Farnhamville. The couple established their home in Farnhamville. Marjorie worked as a bookkeeper for the Farmers Coop for 20 years, retiring in 1981. She is a member of the First United Church in Farnhamville and served on the board for the library for many years. Memorials may be left at the family's discretion.
