WAVERLY, IA - Helen Marie Vaudt Shaw, 93, of Waverly, died Sunday, Nov. 27, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly. She was born Nov. 2, 1918, in Eagle Grove, daughter of Henrich Gerhard “Hank” and Elva Eve Lockard Johnson. She married Albert W. “Jake” Vaudt Jr. on March 11, 1941, in San Francisco. He died in 1990. She married John D. Shaw on June 16, 2001, in Harlingen, Texas. He died in 2005. Mrs. Shaw graduated from Marathon High School, Marathon, in 1937, then attended Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, where she received her teaching certificate. She and Albert developed Slifer Manufacturing in 1957, building egg washers and then high-pressure pumps. They relocated the business to Gowrie, then to Humboldt, retiring in 1968. She had been a member of various Lutheran churches.

Survived by: a son, Daryl Vaudt of Quartzsite, Ariz.; two daughters, Karen (Denny) Mills of Cedar Falls and Donna (Al) Millon of Harlingen; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Luella (Gene) Ryen of Waterloo; and a brother, Ron (Rosie) Johnson of Laurens. Preceded in death by: six sisters, Ivadel Mumford, Genevieve Cook, Viola Koster, Marlys Brown, Romell Johnson and Arlene Pomeroy; a brother, Merlyn Johnson; and a grandson.

Family-conducted memorial services: 11 a.m. Friday at the Good Shepherd Chapel – Bartels, Waverly. The family will greet family and friends from 10:30 a.m. until services Friday. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials: may be directed to Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, 1922 Fifth Ave., NW, Waverly 50677.
