Preston D. White, 90, of Aredale, Iowa, passed away November 4, 2011, at the Belmond Medical Center in Belmond, Iowa. He was born October 29, 1921, in rural Aredale, Iowa, to Oscar and Maybell L. (Gettemy) White. Preston graduated with the class of 1939, from the Aredale High School. He married Fonda Kathleen Hopkins on June 4, 1944, at the Methodist Church in Aredale, Iowa. Preston was a farmer and a electrician. He was a member of the Aredale United Methodist Church, National League of Postmasters Auxiliary. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Trustees for several years and State President of the Iowa Branch of the National League of the Postmasters Auxiliary, where he received a National Award for his many years of his dedicated service. He served many years as a member of the Board of Directors of the Little Yellow School. Preston coached for the Sheffield Clay Diggers girls Little League softball team when his granddaughter played on the team.
He is survived by his wife Fonda Kathleen White of Aredale, daughter-in-law Sheryl White Brindle & husband Dr. Charles Brindle of Belmond, granddaughter Kelly & husband Michael Brock of Osage, granddaughter Emily & husband Justin Barrick of Perth, Australia, granddaughter Stephanie Brindle and friend Daniel Birmingham of Belmond, great grandchildren Ashlynn, Brooklyn and Ethan Brock, sister Beverly Richard of Stewartville, Minnesota, sister-in-law Betty White of Dumont, sister-in-law Wilma White of Perham, Minnesota, many nieces and nephews and cousins, special friends Darwin, Brenda, Clint, Caleb and Austin Penning. Preston was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar & Maybell, mother & father-in-law, Howard & Katie Hopkins, son Donavan Charles, sister Verda, brothers, Wallace, Marion and Dalton & Joyce White, great grandson Spencer Ty Barrick, brother-in-law Jack Richard, niece Pam Aukes, nephew Douglas White and sister-in-law & brother-in-law Irene & H. L. Shannon. Burial will be in the Dumont Cemetery.
