EAGLE GROVE - George Wayne McCart, the son of James Henry and Amanda Elizabeth (Marley) McCart, was born December 5, 1927, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth graduating from Eagle Grove High School in 1946, where he participated on the track team, played football and became a state wrestling champion in 1944 and runner-up in 1946. After graduation he joined the National Guard.

On May 18, 1953, George was united in marriage with Betty Gray in Eagle Grove. The couple made their home, farmed and raised six children in rural Eagle Grove. George served on the Eagle Grove Community School Board, the Security Savings Bank Board, the Farmer's Cooperative Board of Eagle Grove and the Rotary Club Board.

George was an amazing person, devoting his entire married life to providing for his family. He was a very well-respected farmer who taught his children all about hard work and self-discipline and was quite a businessman as evident by the growth of his farm over the years. George was an admired man, whom his children were proud to call "Dad".

George passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011, at Wright Medical Center in Clarion, at the age of 83 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Doris McCart West.

Survivors include his wife Betty McCart of Eagle Grove; six children: Dan McCart and wife Etta Jean of Eagle Grove, Diane Girard and husband Al of Tucson, AZ, Kent McCart and wife Ida of Eagle Grove, Mike McCart and wife Kim of Eagle Grove, Gary McCart and wife Wendy of Eagle Grove and Doris Marner and husband Dan of Crowley, TX; sister, Ann Dyas and husband Dick of Eagle Grove; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, November 3, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove, with Father Nils Hernandez officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Wright County in Clarion, Iowa.
