Robert “Tyke” Grant Imlay, 76, 414 27th Ave. S., Clear Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. Visitation will be Thursday from 10 – 11 a.m. preceding the service. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Military Honors will be provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or the charity of your choice.

Bob was born Jan. 17, 1934 in the family home in Mason City, the son of Grant and Lily (Andersen) Imlay. Following graduation from Mason City High School in 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on the USS Hornet, the USS Philippine Sea and the USS Oriskany. After an honorable discharge, Bob came back to Mason City and attended the Mason City Junior College. He later attended the DeVry Institute in Chicago, Ill. He returned to Mason City and began working for Lehigh Portland Cement Co., retiring in 1991 after 34 years.

Bob married Muriel Ann Glawe June 21, 1958 in Corwith, Iowa and they moved to Clear Lake in 1967. He thought “Clear Lake was the best place in the world to live.” He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Clear Lake V.F.W. In retirement, Bob enjoyed spending time at the family cottage, discussing politics, playing golf and caring for his yard. He especially loved spending time with family, having family picnics and playing cards.

Bob is survived by his wife, Muriel Imlay, Clear Lake; daughter, Mary Imlay, Clear Lake; two sisters, Sharon Samson, Chatsworth, Calif. and JoDee (Robert) Wilfong, Melbourne Beach, Fla.; brothers-in-law, Cecil (Melissa) Glawe, Corwith, and Dennis (Delores) Glawe, Wesley, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife’s parents, George and Margaret Glawe; brother-in-law, John Samson and great-nephew, Jonathon Gremmer. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
