May 12, 1880 -- May 3, 1946

H. Thomas Chapman died at his home at Prescott last Friday, following a long illness. He was born at Prescott and had spent his entire life there as a farmer and stockman. He attended Drake University where he was prominent as an athlete and at one time held the world record for pole vaulting. He took an active part in politics and for 24 years was Democratic chairman in Adams county. He was active in Masonic circles. He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. George Gaskill of Corwith, Iowa; two grandchildren; one brother C. B. Chapman and one sister, Mrs. Clara Reynolds, both of Prescott.
