SWEA CITY, Iowa - Services for Marjorie M. Hurlburt, of Swea City, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church of Swea City, Iowa, with Pastor Todd Hartsock officiating. Interment will follow in the Harrison Township Cemetery in Swea City, Iowa.
Marjorie Maxine (Tucker) Hurlburt, the daughter of Francis and Ora (O'Brien) Tucker was born May 19, 1920, in McCook, Neb. Marjorie departed this life on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at the Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont at the age of 91. On June 6, 1937, Marjorie was united in marriage to Alfred Hurlburt in Harrisburg, Neb. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved back to Palo Alto County and the couple operated gas stations in Graettinger and Emmetsburg, Iowa. In 1941, the family moved to a farm near Seneca, Iowa, and later Wallingford, Iowa, and then Elmore, where they farmed until 1965. They then owned and managed a motel in Eagle Grove, Iowa, for seven years until 1985. They moved to Humboldt, Iowa, for a short time before moving to Swea City, Iowa. Alfred passed away Dec. 23, 2000. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Swea City, where Marjorie was active in UMC, church circles and Sunday School Teaching.
Left to cherish Marjorie's memory are her children, James Hurlburt of Lakota, Iowa, and his wife, Marie; Nancy Haas and her husband, Eldon of Elmore; Joyce Kramer of West Des Moines, Iowa; Kathy Hurlburt of Swea City; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Preceding Marjorie in death is her husband; parents; two sisters and three brothers.
