Norman A. Jensen, 88, died on October 8, 2011. He had been diagnosed with a brain tumor two months earlier. It was his request to be cremated. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
Norm was born March 23, 1923 in Fonda, Iowa. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1941 and enjoyed attending his class reunions. He served in the Navy during World War II. He later attended San Diego State and graduated in 1948 after which he decided to go into the infantry. He accepted a position of 2nd Lt. in the Army. He served during the Korean War from July 1950 until June 1951 which earned him the Bronze Star Medal, Infantry Badge and a commission as 1st Lt. He resigned from the Army in 1953 after working overseas in many different places. He returned to Alaska to work on the Trans Alaska Pipeline. This was followed by project work in Singapore, Iran, Saudi Arabia and New Orleans. His final work assignment was in Anchorage with Alyeska Pipeline Services on the Y2K project in 1998 and 1999.
Norm is survived by his wife Adele; sister Ruth Moen of Iowa; son, Leonard of Paris, France; daughters Susan Hurst and Jennifer Neves of California and Sheryl Roberts of Washington along with their spouses, several grandchildren and nephews. Norm was a very special person. Besides being very interesting, he was kind, considerate and always a gentleman. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends. Arrangements were cared for by Anchorage Funeral Home.
