GOODELL, IA - Johanna Foss, age 95, died with her family by her side on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at the Belmond Rehabilitation Center in Belmond. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior, today, Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme. The Reverend Donna Buckman will be officiating the service. A visitation was held Monday, Sept. 26, from 5-7 p.m. at the Andrews Funeral Home in Klemme.

Johanna Foss was born April 2, 1916, to Lubbey and Gretchen Albers in rural Klemme. She was one of six children. Johanna attended country school in rural Hancock County. After school, Jo married Roy C. Foss on Jan. 11, 1938. This union was blessed with one child, Loretta. Johanna had the well-trained skill of cooking. She worked at the café in Klemme and spent numerous years working as head cook for the Goodell middle school. Jo and Roy we a team as they operated the local gas station in Goodell. Jo also worked at the Kessler Bloemke Pharmacy in Belmond until she retired. Johanna spent much of her life caring for others. Between caring for her family since she was young to tending to whomever needed care as the years went on. Johanna's heart was filled with love and care. She was so renowned for being a care-giver even receiving an award as a community volunteer. She didn't just care for her peers but was very active in caring for her church. Johanna was passionate about her faith and community. Johanna loved being with her friends and family. Being known for her great family gatherings, Jo would always bake delicious baked goods featuring her delicious white fluffy cake. Johanna was an avid dancer. Johanna and Roy were notorious for being found dancing on the ballroom floor at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake to numerous bands. Johanna didn't just have the admiration for ballroom dancing, but also enjoyed dancing to polka music. Johanna enjoyed having fun and she always had a sense of humor and her sociable personality was known by her family and friends.

Johanna's love and memories will live on in the hearts of her daughter Loretta Anderson, Alexander; Johanna's granddaughters Brenda (Bill) Dunbar of Plymouth and their children Kellie Ferden, Kory Ferden and Travis Dunbar; Beth (Mike) Eddy of Coulter and their children Matthew and Brielle. Johanna was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, who passed away Sept. 23, 1983, grandson Brian, who passed away June 13, 1966, and son-in-law Harlan Anderson, who passed away Nov. 23, 2003. Along with parents, and siblings. Brothers: John and Harold Albers, and sisters: Jennie Thieman, Marie Miller and Louise Pearson. Andrews Funeral Home Klemme, IA.
