Wilma Mae Brandt, age 89, was taken to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 22, in Lynden. Born in Hamilton, Michigan on November 9, 1921, Wilma was the daughter of Henry H. and Bertha (Peters) Nyenhuis. On May 12, 1950 she married Rev. Julius Brandt in Holland, Michigan. Together they pastored Immanuel Reformed Church in Belmond, Iowa, before moving to Lynden in 1961 to serve Faith Reformed Church for sixteen years. They then pastored the National Evangelical Church in Kuwait and served briefly in Kenya. Wilma was a librarian in Lynden for many years. A gracious lady, she was known for the poetry she wrote and for the cards and letters she sent to her numerous friends around the world. Juke and Willie also enjoyed raising dahlias and loved sharing them with others. Wilma will be missed by her husband of 61 years, Rev. Julius Brandt; children Jan Brandt and Jack (Pam) Brandt of Bellingham; grandchildren Dana (Amy) Brandt of Bellingham and Bree (Jon) Maberry of Lynden; sister Joyce Pomp of Tenstrike, MN; sister-in-law Laura (Wally) Folkert of Holland, MI and brother-in-law Harv Brandt of Dorr, MI. She was preceded in death by many beloved family members and friends, including her sister, Belva Rigterink. Wilma was an active member of Faith Reformed Church in Lynden and funeral services will be conducted there on Thursday, September 29, at 2:00 PM, with Rev. Ron Van Der Werff officiating. The service will be preceded by private burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home of Lynden.
