May 4, 1932 --- August 11, 2011

Raymond E. Halder the son of Isreal and Iris (Mason) Halder, was born on a farm in Marshall Township, Laurens, Iowa on May 4, 1932. At the age of seven he moved to a farm south of Varina with his parents. Ray attended St. Columbille School in Varina from 1939 to 1946 when the family moved to an acreage west of Pocahontas. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School where he graduated in 1951. On January 12, 1952 he was united in marriage to Betty Milefchik. They made their home on a farm near Varina until 1957 when they moved to Fort Dodge. Ray went to work for Welp and McCartan and Fort Dodge Limestone. In 1968 the family moved to Cherokee and Ray started a lime spreading, rock and gravel business. In 1984 he went driving over the road hauling sheet rock and other material for Umthun Trucking out of Eagle Grove, IA. In 1991 he went to work for Christensen Bros hauling heavy equipment. In 2002 Ray retired due to heath problems.

Ray is survived by his wife, Betty Halder of Cherokee, IA; four sons and their spouses: Randy (Lori) of Seward, NE, Michael (Deb) of Cherokee, IA, Kevin (Kathi) of Cherokee, IA and Neal (Elizabeth) of Ankeny, IA; six daughters and their spouses: Janet (John) Nicolino of Des Moines, IA, Charlotte (Dan) Schueder of Cherokee, IA, Debra Foreman of Marshall MO, Nancy (Brad) Rupp of Plant City, FL, Cindy (Rick) Adams of Clive, IA, and Catherine (Rick) Roe of Clive, IA; 26 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Evelyn Bittner of Pocahontas, IA and Calista Hammes of Pocahontas, IA. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, grandson, and a granddaughter.

Ray was active in the 3rd and 4th degree Knights of Columbus until it became too hard for him to attend the meetings and activities. In his earlier years he would take the motor home and several knights and their wives and attend the conventions. He liked camping at Cutty's and taking the motor home on other trips with his family. Ray enjoyed listening to Guy Lumbardo, Lawrence Welk, and polka music on Saturday nights.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 15, 2011 at the Immaculate Conception Gymnasium. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be used for special local organizations in the community.
