Robert F. Hirt, son of Paul and Rosine (Derkas) Hirt was born Jan. 11th, 1875 near Earlville, Ill., and passed away on his birthday Tuesday evening, January 11, 1949 in the Webster City hospital, having attained the age of 74 years. He came to Iowa with his parents when four years of age and they settled East of Woolstock, Iowa on a farm in the White Fox community. He received his education in the country schools of that community. On October 29, 1905 he was united in marriage to Miss Maude Mae Wallin of Woolstock, Ia. To this union were born two sons, Robert Wayne and Millard Glen Hirt. For many years Mr. Hirt was associated with his brother Martin Hirt, in a general merchandise store in Woolstock. After he retired from the merchandise business, he entered into surveying and also as a contractor of concrete and repair work. During his years of residence in Woolstock, he had at one time been a member of the Woolstock school board and also a member of the city council.

Mr. Hirt had been in unusual good health until the accident Saturday afternoon at his home, when due to a ladder slipping, upon which he had climbed, be was thrown to the frozen ground, causing him to have a skull fracture. He was taken at once to the Webster City hospital, but never regained consciousness. He was a man well liked in the community and one who was always very thorough in all his work.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Rosalie and a brother, Martin Hirt, and he leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mrs. Maude Hirt of Woolstock, two sons, Robert Wayne Hirt of Hollywood, California, and Millard Hirt, at home in Woolstock, one brother, Edward Hirt of Forest City, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 15th, 1949 at 2 p.m., in the Woolstock Methodist church, with Rev Harrison Dawes of Eagle Grove in charge. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery at Eagle Grove. The music was by Edgar and Lloyd Pringle of Webster City, accompanied by Mrs. Ruth Passwater.

Relatives and friends in attendance from out of the city were: Wayne Hirt of Hollywood, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hirt, Leslie and David Hirt of Forest City, DeVere Hirt of Mason City; Earl Wallin, Council Bluffs, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Woodard, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Woodard, Judy and Wayne Woodard of Albert Lea, Minn., Merlin Wallin, Mr. and Mrs. Rea Wallin, Glenville Minn., Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Helmick, Mr. and Mrs. George Helmick, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Alverson, Mrs. Verla Snitselaer, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hilpipre, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hilpipre, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hilpipre, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Borel, all of Clarion, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Derkas, John and William Derkas, Mrs. Ethel Hirt, Jerry Wheeler of Webster City, Fred Wallen, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wallen, John and Fount Hubbard of Marshalltown, Miss Patricia Boughton of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Kastler and John Woodard of Eagle Grove.
