THOR, IA - Richard "Dick" Clarence Christopher, the son of John C. and Constance (Field) Christopher, was born Dec. 21, 1930, in Humboldt County, Iowa. He was raised in the Thor area, graduating from Eagle Grove High School. On March 1, 1953, Richard was united in marriage with Lois Torkelson at the First Lutheran Church in Humboldt. The couple then moved to his family farm near Thor, where they still resided. Richard was a lifelong member of Ullensvang Lutheran Church, serving as an usher for many years. Richard loved farming, fishing, hunting fox and machinery - especially John Deere equipment.

Richard passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Wright Medical Center in Clarion, at the age of 80 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Connie Christopher and sisters-in-law, Nina and her husband Dr. Mike Abrams and Beverly Bowen. Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois Christopher of Thor; aunt, Jeanette Rosenow of Fort Dodge; ten brothers and sisters-in-law, Naomi Torkelson of Thor, Pearl and Cecil Pedersen of Renwick, Arnold and Mildred Torkelson of Gilmore City, Jean and Mel Lehman of Eagle Grove, Esther and Keith Presler of Sauk Center, Minn., Ruby and Don Thompson of Lehigh, Fla., Russell and Loralee Torkelson of Hackensack, Minn., David and Carol Torkelson of Vincent, Steve and Paula Torkelson of Fort Dodge and Bruce and Mary Torkelson of Gilmore City and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 3, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor with Pastor Darryl Landsverk officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in East Ullensvang Cemetery in Thor. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
