EAGLE GROVE - Matthew Wayne Hill was born on October 29, 1986, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Son of Robert P. and Kathy (Gudmonson) Hill, brother to David and friend to all. Matt attended Eagle Grove Community Schools, graduating in 2005. He received his Associates of Arts Degree as a Carpentry Practitioner at Ellsworth Community College and attended the University of Northern Iowa. In 2008, Matt received his Medical Emergency Technician certification and later achieved licensed status as a Paramedic Specialist. He was employed with the City of Eagle Grove as Director of Emergency Medical Services and also recruited and trained volunteers for the Eagle Grove ambulance department. The passion for his job helped achieve the goal of purchasing a new ambulance through fund raising and grant applications. Matt utilized his construction skills to enhance and remodel his working environment that was Matt always trying to make it better for everyone around him.

Matt was also very passionate about helping people. In 2006, while attending Ellsworth Community College, he volunteered to help rebuild hurricane-damaged homes in Mississippi as a result of Hurricane Katrina. It was a life-changing experience and from that day forward, Matt dedicated his life to helping others. Matt enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time with his family and friends. He had a big heart and was always willing to lend a hand he enjoyed helping friends with various projects. He will be remembered for his dry, outlandish, sense of humor and infectious grin.

Matt went to his heavenly home on Monday, May 30, 2011, at the age of 24 years. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Keith Gudmonson and Elliott (Ike) Hill and grandmother, Helen Hill. Survivors include his parents, Bob and Kathy Hill; brother, David Hill; grandmother, Dixie Gudmonson and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 4, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Dr. Fran Pettigrew of the First Baptist Church officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
