Ruth M. Patras, 86, of Buck Lake in Nashwauk, died Monday, April 25, 2011, at Whispering Pines Assisted Living in Bovey. Ruth was born in 1924 to Chester and Thelma Moellering in Rowan, Iowa . When she was seven, her family moved to the Buck Lake area where she grew up and attended school. Ruth graduated from Nashwauk High School in 1942.
She was united in marriage to Lester D. Patras on Jan. 23, 1945, in Bremerton, Wash. Following Lester's honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps, Ruth and Lester returned to the Buck Lake area where they raised their six children. Ruth enjoyed cooking, quilting, crocheting, knitting, fishing, gardening and operating the farm with her husband. She also enjoyed spending time at the cabin, going to church and eating out after the Sunday services and her coffee club. Her greatest joys came from the time she spent with her family. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nashwauk. The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to Beverly, Jeannie, and Jody of Whispering Pines Assisted Living for the wonderful care that was given to Ruth.

She is survived by six children: Wayne (Priscilla) Patras of Nashwauk, Richard (Elaine) Patras of Nashwauk, Donald (Pauline) Patras of Iron, Dianne (David) Patras-Smith of North Branch, Minn., Robert (JoAnn) Patras of Dayton, Wash., and Gayle (John) Batchelder of Grand Rapids; one brother, Chester "Chet" E. Moellering of Nashwauk; two sisters, Esther (William) Tomljanovich of Lake Elmo, Minn., and Carol Roberts of Big Lake, Minn.; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; one sister-in-law, Florence "Floss" Moellering; and one brother-in-law, Don Roberts.

Funeral: Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 29, at the Nashwauk United Methodist Church in Nashwauk. The Rev. Judy Wilder will officiate.

Visitation: Will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at Rowe Funeral Home in Grand Rapids and will continue for one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Burial: Will be in Nashwauk Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Rowe Funeral Home of Grand Rapids.
