John Katuin
January 1, 1925 -- November 30, 2007
John was born in Kanawha, Iowa, the youngest of 11 children. He had to quit school after 8th grade at the request of his elderly father to work on the family farm. He married Ruth on Aug. 25, 1949 and continued farming until 1961. Then he moved the family to California and worked as a cattle rancher for over 25 years in Madera County. He has lived in the Madera Ranchos since 1969. He was determined to get a high school education and went to night school and graduated in 1965. After retiring from cattle ranching, he drove gravel truck for his son at Al's Concrete and traveled extensively with Ruth throughout the U.S. and Canada with their travel trailer. John was loved and will be missed by Ruth, his wife of 58 years; children Alan Katuin and wife Sherry of Shaver Lake; Victoria Barlow of Madera Ranchos; Dennis Katuin and wife Trudy of Clovis; Mary Vosburg and her husband Larry of Las Vegas, Nev.; Curtis Katuin and his wife Tammy of Madera Ranchos; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sister Anna Paulsen of Clarion, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and many life-long friends in Iowa and California. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday, Dec. 6. Memorial donations may be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Parkinson's Association.
