Obituary for Mads Christensen:
Mads Christensen, son of Chris and Margaret Christensen, was born at Areau, Denmark, January 29, 1858, and died at his home in Dakota City, Iowa, after a brief illness of only two weeks duration, on Sunday evening, January 17, 1943, having attained the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 18 days. He grew to manhood in the land of his birth and came to America in 1881, and made his home near Gibson, Ford County, Illinois, where he was employed on a farm. He came to Humboldt County, Iowa, in 1888 where he has since resided. They have lived in or near Dakota City the past thirty-three years. The past ten years he has lived in his present home. He was united in marriage with Marie Jacobsen, also of Humboldt County, November 24, 1888, and they settled on a farm north of Rutland which he had purchased for a home. They celebrated their golden wedding on November 24, 1938, To them were born four children, three sons and one daughter, three of whom survive him. One son, Chris, died March 11, 1938.
He united with the Methodist church of Humboldt in 1915 coming to this church...church North of Rutland which he with his family had helped to build. He was an untiring worker, always willing to do more than his share. He was at work on the farm with his son at the time he was stricken. His home and his family were his chief interest. He was a most devoted husband and father. His helpful interest and council will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife and his three children, Mrs. Anna Olson of Rembrandt, Iowa, Harry of Eagle Grove, Iowa and Charlie of Dakota City, Iowa. He is also survived by one sister Marie Norr of Hinckley, Illinois, and by eleven grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Services were held Wednesday, January 20, at the Lindhart funeral chapel at 2:00, conducted by Rev. W.L. Breaw if the Methodist Church. Mrs. Geo Engquist and two solos accompanied by Mrs. Albert Morehouse. Interment was at Union Cemetery, Humboldt, Iowa.
