Marie Margaretha Jacobsen, daughter of Rasmus and Anna Jacobsen, was born at Kliplev, Denmark, April 2nd, 1867, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs Anna Olsen, near Rembrandt, Ia., November 6th, 1945 at the age of 78 years, 7 months, and 4 days. She grew to womanhood in Denmark and received her education in the common branches of the schools there. When she was grown to young womanhood she came to the United States of America with her older sister, Kate. They first resided in Chicago, Illinois, later coming to Humboldt County, Iowa. Soon after she came to Humboldt county, she was united in marriage with Mads Christensen of Rutland, Iowa in November 1888, and made their first home on their farm north of Rutland. To them were born three sons and one daughter. A son and daughter survive her.

She was preceded in death by her husband in January 1943 and by her sons, Chris in 1928 [March 11, 1928] and by Charles on November 6th, 1944. Mrs. Christensen was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Denmark in her childhood. After coming to Rutland, she with her husband and others of the community were instrumental in organizing the Saint Paul's Danish Methodist church north of Rutland. After moving to the farm north of Dakota City, she with her husband joined the Humboldt Methodist Church in 1915, in which fellowship they each remained until her death.

She had remained in good health for a woman of her years, and was about the house until noon on November 6th. After lunch she felt slightly ill, and was about to go lie down. She rested in a chair for a moment and while seated there, she slipped away to her Eternal home. She had lived a long and useful life and has joined her dear ones on that other shore.
