Diane Marlene Trampel was born Nov. 1, 1949, in Algona, to Ivadell and Charles Walton. Their family made their home in Des Moines and later moved to Napier. She graduated from United Community High School in Boone. Following high school she moved to Mason City and attended Hamilton Business School. Mason City is where she met her future husband, Richard Allen Trampel. Diane was united in marriage with Rich on Aug. 21, 1971, at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Ames. They made their home in Klemme where their union was blessed with two children; a daughter, Angela (Angie); and a son, Travis. Following college Diane was employed by Wallace, Holland, Kastler and Schmitz. After staying home to start a family she got a job at Par Products in Klemme. Then in 1988 she began her career at the school as the Klemme board secretary. When the schools consolidated in 1994 Diane was transferred to Belmond, where she remained for the rest of her 23-year tenure at the school. She spent many long days, nights and weekends dedicated to making sure the school finances were in order. Throughout the years Diane took on several extra jobs, including selling heat detectors, Maleluca, Christmas Around the World and Party Light Candles. When Diane was not working she enjoyed many good times at the infamous Trampel Arena. At the ranch rodeos and ropings she was in charge of taking entries and recording times. Through the arena she touched the lives of many up and coming High School Rodeo stars. She and Richard loved to attend many of the rodeo and roping events around the surrounding states cheering on their young friends and Travis in the saddle bronc event. Diane also enjoyed her trips to Texas to visit her daughter and grand-dog Ashley. She also enjoyed going to the casino where she always dreamed of hitting the jackpot.

One of her most happy times in her later years was a trip the family took to Sweden for their Swedish son, Philip Herlitz's wedding to his wife, Anna. She enjoyed visiting the family's farm, seeing the big ships in Stockholm and the beautiful Swedish landscapes and architecture. The trip will not long be forgotten by the family. Other hobbies included sewing, playing cards with family and friends and watching game shows.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Trampel; her daughter, Angie of Austin, Texas; son, Travis, of Klemme; mother-in-law, Ruth Trampel; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Vivian Walton of Story City, Duane "Dewey" and Marlene Walton of Napier and Devon and Deborah Walton of Andover, Minn.; sister-in-law, Joanne Vander Wolde of New Braunfels, Texas; sister-in-law, Dixie, and husband, Larry Treinen of Klemme; brother-in-law, Terry, and wife Tracy Trampel of Klemme; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews and countless friends.
