HUMBOLDT, IA - Marlin J. Stalzer, 52, of Humboldt, passed away January 6, 2011 at the Villa Care Center in Fort Dodge. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Humboldt with Fr. Jim Tigges officiating. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Livermore. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with a parish rosary at 3:30 and a parish scripture service at 5:30.

Marlin is survived by his brother, Dale Stalzer of Livermore; sisters, LuAnn Christopher and Kalene Berte both of Humboldt; 7 nieces and nephews; and 4 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, IvoLu Stalzer; and many nieces and nephews.

Marlin James Stalzer, the son of Earl and IvoLu (Thilges) Stalzer, was born May 28, 1958 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm near Renwick and attended school at Gilmore City. Following his education, Marlin enjoyed his work at the Opportunity Center in Livermore, beginning in 1973, and the Humboldt Workshop, later becoming West Fork Services. Marlin resided with his parents until 2004 when he made his home at the 9th Street Group Home. He continued his work with West Fork and in 2008 moved into his own apartment in Dakota City. On the evening of January 6, 2011, Marlin passed away following a brief battle with pneumonia.

Marlin loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed crafts, which included stickers, paper chains, tracing, and cutting paper. He also enjoyed music, listening to country and gospel and playing the piano, guitar, organ, drums, and horns, along with cooking shopping, and his trips to Hardees. He enjoyed collecting buttons and hats.
