Leonard A. Miller was born to Ed and Helena Miller on March 12, 1913 at Jasper, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Jasper Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. He attended Luther College in Decorah from 1931-35 and received his Masters Degree at The University of Iowa in 1942. On June 17, 1937, he married Helen M. Johnson of Decorah. They made their first home at Alexander, IA where he was a school principal and band director. From there, he was a school administrator in Ridgeway, IA; Canton, MN; Elkton, MN; and Bode, IA. In 1966, he and Helen moved to Hampton where he was a joint county school superintendent for Butler, Bremer, and Franklin Counties until he retired in 1976. They have since made their home in Hampton. Leonard died on Wednesday, January 20, 1999 at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.
Leonard is survived by his wife Helen; children Jane Grundmeier (Frank) of Hinckley, MN; Mary Kramer (Yale) of Des Moines, IA; Ed Miller (Becky) of Janesville, WI; Anne Paullus (Steve) of Marshalltown, IA; and Lee Miller of Garner IA; and also one sister, Aurelia Mains of Pipestone, MN. He was preceded in death bay his parents; two brothers, Walter and Albert; and a son, Charles Edward.
