Howard T. Asbe, 82, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, in Napa after a brief battle with cancer.

Born in Kanawha, Iowa to the late Henry and Anna Asbe, Howard spent 20 years of active service in the U.S. Navy, and an additional 21 years with the Mare Island Naval Shipyard as a machinist. He was an active 50-year member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He served as a volunteer for the Senior Citizen Center in Vallejo and the Veterans Home of California in Yountville. Howard loved ballroom dancing and traveling. On most Sunday mornings, Howard could be found attending church at the chapel at the Veterans Home.

Mr. Asbe was preceded in death by his wife Opal V. Asbe and his son Ronald D. Asbe. Survivors include a son, Howard. Jr. (Barbara) Asbe of Bloomfield, N.M.; daughter Anna (Gary) Hensley of Richmond, Ky. and a sister, Lorraine Tesdahl of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Tom Asbe, Steve Asbe, Amber Asbe, Kelly Asbe, Matthew Hensley and Allison Hensley and four great-grandchildren. Howard is also survived by his special friend, La Donna Spicer of Napa.

Visitation will be at Skylawn Memorial Lawn, 200 Rollingwood Drive, Vallejo, on Sunday evening, July 31 from 5 to 7 p.m., with the funeral at Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo, on Monday, August 1 at 10 a.m.
