Carl Martin was born May 8, 1930 in Dows, Iowa to Noah and Ethel Teems Martin. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1948. Carl met Letha Jones at the bowling alley and was married at the Little Brown Church on October 20, 1950. They were blessed with four children: Dennis, Connie, Janice, and Gary. Carl was in the National Guard and was a Marine Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He and Letha farmed until 1971 and moved to Milo. They owned and operated Indian Lanes for 8 years. He owned the Stiles Bowling Supplies in Ft. Dodge until retiring. He obviously loved to bowl and was striving for the perfect game. He bowled a 298 game and achieved perfection with a 300 game in 1990. He also enjoyed woodworking and carpentry building many things for his family and friends. During winter months Carl enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds out his window and always enjoyed the outdoors. Carl had a great love for people, especially children. His family was very important to him and he was very close to his grandchildren. All that knew him remember his great sense of humor and practical joking.
Carl passed away at his home on December 30, 2009 with his family by his side at the age of 79 years. His parents preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife of 59 years Letha of Milo; children: Dennis (Jody) Martin of Sioux City, Connie (Brian) Mykleby of Bettendorf, Janice (Curt) Block of Oskaloosa, Gary (Marilyn Cook) Martin of Chariton; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 7 siblings: Walt (Mary) Martin of Humboldt, Maxine (Don) Carlson of Boone, Darlene Lindley of Alexandria, MN, Darrell (Inge) Martin of Duluth, MN, John (Ollie Solberg) Martin of Faribault, MN, Kay (Neil) Cook of Richmond MN, and Mariland Kleppe of Eagle Grove; and many relatives and friends. Memorials to Circle of Life Hospice in Chariton.
