Hortenza Vold, 71, Jewell, Iowa died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were held Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church south of Jewell with Rev. Harley Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth.

Hortenza Jennie Heeren was born Dec. 20, 1928 in Kamrar, the daughter of Wilke and Hilka Koop Heeren. She grew up in the Kamrar area and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1946. She attended the Iowa Teacher's College in Cedar Falls. She taught in the Rose Grove Township School. On April 7, 1957 she married Floyd Robert Milo Vold at the First Presbyterian Church in Kamrar. They lived in Kamrar, Woolstock and Ellsworth prior to moving to the Stanhope area on Feb. 3, 1962. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was active with the ladies aide and circle. She was an active member of South High Pride and served as a 4-H leader for many years.

Survivors are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Clark and Laurie Vold of Jewell, Alan Vold of Stanhope, and Earl Vold of Jewell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Steve Tempel of Kamrar, Pauline and Eric Barkema of Alexander; six grandchildren Scott and Mike Tempel, Jake and Christie Vold, Cassaundra Vold, and Carter Barkema; a brother, Harold Heeren of Stanhope, and a sister, Wilma Anderson of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law and grandson, Shelly and Collin Vold in 1997.
