November 27, 1937 --- January 12, 1989

Mel Wepel, 51, Webster City, died suddenly Thursday, Jan. 12, 1989 at the Hamilton County Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 14, at 1:30 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home, Rev. Bruce Bane officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation at Foster's is after 7 p.m. today until time of service Saturday.

Melvin J. Wepel, son of Albert and Lucille Thompson Wepel, was born Nov. 27, 1937 in Webster City. The family resided in Stanhope. He was educated in Jewell, later in Goldfield and Eagle Grove. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1955. He was employed as a truck driver, later managed the Moose Lodge, and most recently was operator of the Shady Oaks Inn for 13 years.

He is survived by a brother, Roger L. Wepel, Woolstock; two nephews, one great nephew; one great niece; a friend, Kris Hale, Webster City; an uncle, John Wepel, Webster City; and two aunts, Gertrude Nelson, Ellsworth, and Gladys (Mrs. Delbert) Flannigan, Cainsville, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Wepel was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, Webster City Country Club and Chamber of Commerce.
