KENYON, MN — Darrell D. Kalvig, 76, of Kenyon, died on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Home in Windom, Minn. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Kenyon, with Reverend Luther Mathsen officiating. Inurnment will be in the spring at Little Cannon Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Darrell Dean Kalvig was born on Jan. 2, 1935, in Mason City, Iowa, to Elmer H. and Alma J. (nee Asbe) Kalvig. He grew up in Kanawha, Iowa, and graduated from Kanawha High School in 1953. Darrel started working for Lampert Lumber and the company transferred him to Kenyon to manage the Lampert Lumber Store there. He managed the store until it closed in 1963. On June 23, 1963, he married Jeannine M. Hardtke in Winona. They made their home in Kenyon and Darrel worked construction for several years. In 1965 he started working for Milo Peterson Ford. He worked in sales, service and was the parts manager for many years. He retired in 2000 after 35 years with Milo Peterson Ford. Darrel was a charter member of the Southern Minnesota Parts Club and was a member of First Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking, crafts, camping, coffee club, wintering in Texas, his genealogy book, and spending time with family and grandchildren.

Darrel is survived by his children, Darren (Trina) Kalvig of Bingham Lake, Minn., Jay Kalvig of Owatonna, and Leanne (Tom) Musgjerd of Elk River, Minn.; grandchildren, Savanah Dunnick, Gunnar Kalvig, Liam Kalvig, Owen Musgjerd, Cy Musgjerd, Joseph Musgjerd and Sheldon Musgjerd; a brother, Alvin Kalvig of Black Duck, Minn.; sisters, Deloris (Alvin) Harrinstein of Waverly, Iowa, and Elaine Hegland of Ames, Iowa; and sisters-in-law, Iola Kalvig of Des Moines, Iowa, Deloris Kalvig of Billings, Mont., and Beverly Pille of Plainview. Darrel was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeannine; sister, Naomi Hamlin; and two brothers, Elmer Kalvig and Jerome Kalvig.

Memorials are preferred to Little Cannon Cemetery or Kenyon Sunset Home. Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
