W. D. Adams Rites Here Saturday

Funeral services for William D. Adams, 87, longtime Webster City resident, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. C. W. Dehne officiating. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery. Mr. Adams died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at his home just north of this city on the White Fox road. He had been in failing health since last November.

William David Adams, son of Joseph and Margaret [Roup] Adams, was born Nov. 6, 1866, on a farm in the Saratoga community. He was reared and educated in that community. At an early age, he was converted in the United Brethren church, and at the age of 21 was an ordained minister. Dec. 31, 1887, he was united in marriage to Mary L. Myers. The first 15 years of their married life was spent on a farm near Stanhope. While living there he conducted services with the Rev. Byron Clark, holding revival services at Mulberry Center, Saratoga and Webster City. They later moved to Cleo Springs, Okla., where he served as a minister in the United Brethren church. They resided in Oklahoma for eight years before returning to Iowa. Mr. Adams retired from the ministry and the family moved to a farm in the Mt. Zion community. In 1931 the family moved to an acreage just north of this city where Mr. Adams had since made his home.

He was preceded in death by his wife, who died March 19, 1933. He was also preceded in death by three children, his parents, four brothers and seven sisters. On May 22, 1937, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Belle Ogden. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Ferne Killingsworth of Eagle Grove and Mrs. Zepha Ruhl of Webster City, and five sons, Edgar of Fresno, Calif., Erven of Eagle Grove, Stanley of Weiser, Idaho, Clarence of Armstrong, Iowa, and Mike of Eagle Grove. Also surviving are 44 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and 4 great - great - grandchildren.
