John E. Lieuwen, 92, De Pere, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010. He was born July 7, 1918, in Belmond, Iowa, to the late Samuel and Ida (Andrews) Lieuwen. On Jan. 29, 1940, he married Alvira Nehring. John retired from Northwest Engineering after 40 years of service to the company. He always worked very hard at whatever he was doing. Gardening and feeding all the animals that came into his yard was a real enjoyment of his. John was a real outdoors person. In his younger years he loved to fish in his small boat on the bay of Green Bay.
He is survived by his wife, Alvira; his daughter, Kay (Paul) Roffers, and his daughter-in-law, Rosie Lieuwen. His grandchildren also survive, Shelia (Ralph) Dettmann, Sarah Roffers, Patty Landin, Jamie Roffers, Jenny (Kevin) Fye, Gary (Heidi) Lieuwen, Kim (Craig) Rosner, and Dan Lieuwen; John's great-grandchildren, Megan, Hannah, Conner, Carson, Alex, Kelsey, Jerrad, Brennan, Cooper; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his daughter, Eileen; his sons, Jerry and Mike; his siblings, Henry Lieuwen, Coolidge (Eunice) Lieuwen, Lorraine (Luke) Grady, and Geneva (Joe) Reitmier. His in-laws, Peter (Laura) Nehring, and his two sisters-in-law, Marie Sink, and Katherine (Peter) Sink also preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 305 N. Tenth Street, in De Pere, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday (TODAY). A Service of Remembrance will be held at 7 p.m. John's family would like to thank the doctors at Aurora BayCare as well as Aurora Hospice, especially Denise, and Toni, and the staff at Walnut Grove for all of their care and concern.
