Gerald C. Sorensen

June 12, 1925 - December 25, 2010

Gerald C. Sorensen - age 85, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2010, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Gerald was born on June 12, 1925. He was the son of Chris and Sophie (Schultz) Sorensen. He was raised in Bradgate, Ia. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943 where he served in Europe during WW II. After his honorable discharge in 1946, Jerry returned to Bradgate and farmed with his father. On June 18, 1950, he married Beverly Ruth Majorwicz and the couple made their home on a farm near Rolfe and later at Newell. In 1970, Jerry and Bev moved to Clarion where he was a owner-operator truck driver until retiring. His interests included golf, having coffee down at the elevator and taking care of his wife Bev. In 2006 they moved to Urbandale to be closer to their grandchildren. Gerald is survived by his daughter: Laurie Penner of Sioux City; son: Chris (Debra) Sorensen of Urbandale; grandchildren: Luke Penner and Geoff Penner of Sioux City, Ginny Ernst of Newell, Amber Sorensen of Belmond and Nicole, Anthony and Ashley Sorensen of Urbandale; great-grandchildren: Austin Ernst, Tatin Sorensen and Christian Berry. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister.

ROLFE, IA - Gerald C. Sorensen, 85, of Urbandale, formerly of Rolfe, passed away Saturday, Dec. 25, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the Powers Funeral Home in Rolfe with Rev. Charles Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Clinton-Garfield Cemetery near Rolfe. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Powers Funeral Home in Rolfe.
