Beverly Ruth Sorensen
April 9, 1930 - December 17, 2010

Beverly R. Sorensen age 80, passed away on December 17, 2010, at the Deerfield Retirement Community in Urbandale, Iowa. Beverly Ruth Majorowicz was born on April 9, 1930, at Emmetsburg. She was the daughter of Franklin and Ruth (Petersen) Majorowicz. She graduated from Plover Consolidated School in 1947. She then attended Morningside College in Sioux City for one year and then transferred to Iowa State teachers College in Cedar Falls. Beverly taught school at Rake, Iowa. On June 18, 1950, she married Gerald Sorensen and the couple made their home on a farm near Rolfe. They later moved to a farm near Storm Lake. At that time, Beverly enrolled in Buena Vista College and graduated with a degree in teaching. She taught school at Newell and Ida Grove. In 1970 Bev and Jerry moved to Clarion where she taught until retiring. Her interests included bridge, golf, having coffee with friends and especially shopping! In 2006 they moved to Urbandale to be closer to their grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband: Gerald of Urbandale; daughter: Laurie Penner of Sioux City; son: Chris (Debra) Sorensen of Urbandale; grandchildren: Luke Penner and Geoff Penner of Sioux City, Ginny Ernst of Newell, Amber Sorensen of Belmond and Nicole, Anthony and Ashley Sorensen of Urbandale; great-grandchildren: Joey Ernst, Tatin Sorensen and Christian Berry; and sister: Sherry Lehigh of Humboldt. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents.

Beverly Sorensen, age 80, of Urbandale, formerly of Rolfe and Clarion, passed away on December 17, 2010 at the Deerfield Retirement Community in Urbandale. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at the Powers Funeral Home in Rolfe, Iowa With Rev. Charles Miller officiating. Burial will be at Clinton-Garfield Cemetery near Rolfe, Iowa. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 22, at the Powers Funeral Home of Rolfe, Iowa.
