May 6, 1892 -- September 1, 1934

Warren H. Smith, son of James A. and Caroline Smith, was born in Eagle Grove Township, Wright County, Iowa, May 6, 1892 and died at the place of his birth, on Saturday, September 1, 1934, at the age of 42 years, 3 months and 25 days. He spent the first 28 years of his life in the Eagle Grove community, where he received his education in the public schools. On December 28, 1916, he was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Courtney at Goldfield. To them were born two sons, James Albert and Warren Junior. They moved to West Concord, Minnesota in 1919, where they lived for eight years. They then returned to the Eagle Grove Community where they have since lived on the old homestead where he was born. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, having come here from Goldfield by transfer in 1931.

Mr. Smith was in failing health during the late winter and early spring and after consultation with local doctors, he was taken to Rochester, Minnesota, where he submitted to an operation in the latter part of May. His condition was found to be beyond the help of human hands. On June 10, he returned to his home where he has been tenderly cared for. Everything being done, but to no avail. He steadily grew worse and has answered the summons to the Heavenly Home. He was kind and patient during the long trying period of his illness. Never once complaining of his lot. He was a kind and loving father and husband, a good friend and neighbor and a loyal citizen.

He leaves to mourn his going, his beloved wife and two sons of Eagle Grove, also one brother and three sisters, Erman S. Smith of Barrington, Illinois, Mrs. O. H. [Sophia] Nervig of Hardy, Mrs. L.C. [Julia] Warner of Page, North Dakota, and Marcia Smith of Eagle Grove. There are also a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives besides a host of neighbors and friends who will morning his passing.

The funeral was held from the Wilson Funeral Chapel and from the Methodist Church in Eagle Grove on Monday afternoon, September 3, at 2:00 o'clock. The officiating minister was his pastor, the Rev. W. L. Breaw. He was buried in the Goldfield Cemetery.
