January 15, 1892 -- February 26, 1986

Margaret Smith Slaikeu, the daughter of Granville and Amanda Courtney, was born on January 15, 1892 at Mountain Grove, Missouri. She grew up in Iowa. On December 28, 1916, she was united in marriage with Warren Smith at Goldfield. The couple lived and farmed near Goldfield and in 1943, Mr. Smith died. In 1936, she was united in marriage with Alva Slaikeu and the family lived in the Goldfield area until 1945, when they moved to Eagle Grove. Mr. Slaikeu died in 1964. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church. She died on Wednesday evening, February 26, 1986 at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge at the age of 94 years, 1 month and 11 days.

She is survived by her son, Richard Slaikeu of Eagle Grove; her step-son, Don and his wife, Alta Slaikeu of Goldfield, several grandchildren; many great grandchildren and several great, great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, two sons: James and Warren Smith, Jr., and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Slaikeu, age 94, of Eagle Grove were held on Saturday, March 1, at 11 a.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Rev. Victor Victoria, pastor of United Presbyterian Church of Goldfield, officiated, and burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
